What is the difference between a travel trailer and a fifth wheel?
Both are towable RVs, but they connect to your vehicle differently. A travel trailer uses a standard ball hitch mounted under your vehicle's bumper, while a fifth wheel connects to a specialized hitch mounted in a truck bed. This means travel trailers offer more tow vehicle flexibility; many can be towed by an SUV or half-ton truck, while fifth wheels generally require a full-size truck. Fifth wheels tend to be larger and more residential in feel, while travel trailers are typically more affordable and easier to maneuver.
How do I know if my vehicle can tow a travel trailer?
Start with your vehicle's tow rating, which you can find in the owner's manual or on the manufacturer's website. You'll also want to factor in tongue weight, the downward force the trailer exerts on your hitch. As a general rule, your trailer's loaded weight should not exceed your vehicle's tow capacity. Many experienced RVers also follow the 80% rule: keep your loaded trailer weight at or below 80% of your vehicle's maximum tow rating for a comfortable safety margin.
Do I need a special license to tow a travel trailer?

What's the difference between a travel trailer and a destination trailer?
